 Same sex unions

Same sex unions

Should gay couples be given the same rights as heterosexual de facto couples? Should the new Labor Government legalise gay unions nation wide? Should homosexual couples be given the right to marriage? Should we continue to discriminate against homosexuals?

Of course people should be allowed to spend their life with whomever they like. All couples should be entitled to have legal protection just like any partnership. Marriage in a christian church sense is strictly defined between a man and a woman, in the rest of the world, religion should have no bearing on peoples rights - let them get married in the eyes of the law. Its no skin off your nose.

I suspect a lot of people disagree with same-sex civil unions because of ceremonies that may take place. Well here is some news for you - gay ceremonies take place anyway, so if the Labor goverment refuses to allow civil unions it's not going to stop same-sex ceremonies. Its time to give gay people equal rights.
