Careers Expo - Live, Train & Work in our Region

16/05/2008 9:56:00 AM

Students, parents, educators and community groups are invited to attend the 2008 Careers Expo being held at the Goulburn Soldiers Club on Wednesday, June 4.

"The theme of the Careers Expo is Live, Train and Work in our Region," said Anja Livingston of the Capital Region Local Community Partnership (LCP).

"Providing students who are making career choices with the opportunity to meet with employers, educators and community groups is invaluable," she said. "It also raises students' awareness of local opportunities that are available to them."

"Building on the success of the 2007 Careers Expo that was attended by 660 students and 45 stallholders, this year we have focussed on increasing the range of industries and organisations exhibiting, and have encouraged a more interactive 'hands-on' experience."

High School students and teachers from Goulburn, Crookwell, Braidwood, Yass and the Southern Highlands are expected to attend the Expo, part of National Careers Development week activities. Students will find out about a wide variety of career options by talking to industry and education stallholders who are 'in the business', between 10am and 3pm.

"There will also be parent workshops looking at student transition from school to work, and providing information on career pathways and further education options such as traineeships, apprenticeships, TAFE and universities," Anja said. Parent workshops will be held from 12 noon to 1.30 pm and include a light lunch.
