Cowra tragedy: Hodgkinson

2/07/2008 4:00:00 AM
'I know I speak for all in the Burrinjuck electorate when I say we are stunned and devastated by the senseless deaths of two children and their grandmother and the wounding of their mother in Cowra [on Monday].

On behalf of the community I wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Senior Constable Walsh, her family, friends and the police officers serving in Cowra and Parkes.

This is a tragic event beyond comprehension and one, which strikes to the hearts of us all.

There is a police investigation underway and I will not comment on the specific details that are subject to that investigation.

The enormity of this tragedy will lead many to ask how this could have been prevented.

These concerns will need to be addressed.

But for now the Cowra community needs to spend time reflecting on this tragic loss life and supporting those who have to bear unimaginable grief.'
