Forward thinking year 12 students Brendan McLucas and Christopher Kordas-Humphrey were thrilled to find out they were successful applicants for Australian Defence Force Academy scholarships.
Both were more shocked than anything else, when two weeks ago each received a phone call notifying them of the good news.
Each year thousands of students and graduates apply for scholarships to the Academy, but only 120 nationwide are successful.
Brendan has his sights set on becoming a pilot for the Australian Air Force. Naturally he was thrilled to find out that he was not only accepted into ADFA, but would also have all his fees paid.
“I was extremely psyched when I found out,” Brendan explained. “The scholarship pays for my uni degree and HECS. A Bachelor of Science and Technology will focus on the theory behind flying planes. Hopefully, in three years I can begin flying.”
Chris hopes to take a different path if he attends ADFA. He applied for the scholarship last year with the desire to study arts, politics and history, through the University of NSW on ADFA campus.
Best of mates, the pair are delighted about the prospect of attending the Academy together. Both have been Air Force Cadets since 2003.
To ensure they wind up in the defence force, Brendan and Chris need to strive for a 70 plus UAI. With the carrot dangling in front of their eyes, both young men have shifted their short-term focus to the upcoming High School Certificate.
