Yass Valley Council has terminated the contract of its General Manager Kerry McMurray.
The Yass Tribune understands the termination occurred at an extraordinary meeting of councillors on Wednesday afternoon.
Acting General Manager David Rowe advised council employees of the news yesterday.
The following statement was released by Yass Valley Council on behalf of Mayor Nic Carmody.
“It is with disappointment that Council announces the General Manager, Mr Kerry McMurray, will no longer be required to fulfil his duties at Yass Valley Council.
“Council recognises aspects of the General Manager's work which have greatly assisted Council and the Yass community.
“Council will begin the search for a new General Manager in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the acting General Manager will be David Rowe.”
Mr McMurray has confirmed council’s termination of his contract. He has also indicated he will fight the terms of the termination.
“I’m incredibly disappointed with both the outcome and the process. The matter will obviously go to litigation and, on legal advice, I cannot make any further comment until that process has been followed,” Mr McMurray said.
“I would like to convey, on behalf of myself and my family, the incredible level of support that has been afforded by members of the community and particularly my staff.”
The details surrounding the termination of Mr McMurray’s contract remain confidential.
Mr McMurray was appointed as General Manager of Yass Valley Council in December 2004.
