Fifteen local budding film makers have assembled in Yass to create their own short films, which will be showcased at Riverbank Park on November 14.

Students from Mt Carmel and Yass High spent the first three days of their school holiday creating, shooting and editing their own short films which explore the issues of stereotypes, superheroes, adventures and the ever contentious Yass water.

The Yass Valley Development Corporation (YVDC) purchased the incredibly popular In the Bin Short Film Educational Program following two successful years of film making for Yass High School. This year students from Mt Carmel joined Yass High film enthusiasts for the free interactive workshop.

Yass High student Caitlin Nelson has been fortunate to attend all three In the Bin educational programs.

“I have learnt something different each year and I look forward to the workshops.

“I found this workshop most interesting because I had an opportunity to work with students from Mt Carmel. It was good getting to know and work with other people.”

Caitlin hopes to pursue a career in television and film production and has benefited from the expertise and advice handed down by In the Bin workshop leaders Jed Cahill and Luke ‘Lunk’ Nicholls.

Caitlin is most grateful to the YVDC for the opportunity to access first class film making workshops on her home soil.

“It is a great opportunity and a great insight into all the stages of film.”

The students’ short films will be shown along with 14 of the best national and international short films on the filmmaking circuit at Riverbank Park on November 14, as part of the Yass Valley Film Festival.
