Landmark Copeland Medway livestock agent Phil Butt has been selected to represent NSW in the prestigious Mike Nixon Award.
The Award, which commenced in 2005, is given annually to an agent who has no more than ten years full time experience in the livestock agency industry, and who is judged to be the most outstanding in the agency sector.
This award has been instituted by Rural Press and Australian Livestock and Property Agents (ALPA) in memory of Mike Nixon, a charismatic, extremely popular and highly respected Rural Press journalist over many years.
The state finalists will be judged at the ALPA National Conference in Brisbane on Friday October 3 and announced at the conference dinner that evening.
Landmark Copeland Medway Principle Col Medway explained “Phil has been a relative late starter to livestock agency, but his previous experience having grown up on a mixed farm at Young and working as a rural contractor and animal health representative combined with his maturity has seen him take to livestock sales with ease.”
“We gave Phil a start four and a half years ago and he has developed quickly to be an effective and outstanding agent who puts in the hours and hard work to ensure he achieves the best result for his clients”
“Under the guidance of Steve Scroope, Phil has developed his auctioneering and livestock assessment skills to become a Level 1 accredited assessor with Auctions Plus for sheep and Level 3 for cattle.”
“Landmark Copeland Medway sell more sheep on Auctions Plus than any other agent on mainland Australia. Steve and Phil continually achieve outstanding results for clients on Auctions Plus. It’s more work, but if you get the result it is worth it”, Col explained.
Phil was interviewed in Sydney by a panel from ALPA and selected as the NSW representative in the national award. Finalists from all states will contest the award. The award recognises young agents who display excellence in livestock marketing.
Evidence of Phil’s marketing of clients’ livestock had to be submitted in his application as well as a number of clients, buyers and other agents provided as referees. Feedback indicates that these referees were all contacted and questioned extensively about Phil’s ability as an agent.
“We are extremely proud but not surprised that Phil has made the national final of the Mike Nixon Award,” Col Medway said.
“We know the effort he puts in, we see how upset he gets when a client’s price for their livestock doesn’t meet his expectations, and he has become a pillar of our growing livestock business.”
“If Phil wins, no doubt he will dedicate his win to “Mickey” his faithful dog who lost an argument with his brother’s car while he was recently on holidays overseas.”
“However he probably should dedicate the win to Sally, his equally hard working real estate agent wife who is becoming accustomed to being a livestock agent’s widow. We wish Phil well at the national awards and hope he can bring home the Mike Nixon Award to Yass,” Mr Medway concluded.
