Support for breast screening in Yass

4/07/2008 1:18:00 PM
Nic Carmody is strongly supportive of the BreastScreen Service’s push to bring breast cancer screening to Yass.

Claudia Cresswell from BreastScreen ACT and NSW says the BreastScreen Service received immediate help from Yass Valley Council in its efforts to encourage women to have the screening.

For his part, Nic Carmody was shocked to discover that Yass falls below the national average in terms of the percentage of our population who have breast screening, and is keen to lift us well above the national average. “We’re usually above the national average in many positive ways,” Nic said. “And I’d like Yass to be above average on this measure too.”

Nic believes the untimely death of Jane McGrath will have brought the possibility of breast cancer into many women’s minds, and may prompt women in Yass to attend the breast screening here later this month. He is hoping local businesses will support Yass Valley Council in promoting the screening facility.
