Police are warning dog owners living in the Gundaroo area to be extremely vigilant after 10 reported acts of deliberate poisoning.
Eight domestic dogs – ranging from Jack Russel terriers to German Shepherds - have died from what police believe is 1080 poisoning. Dogs from Cork Street, the Belmont Forrest and other areas of Gundaroo have presented with similar symptoms and police suspect the animals have been baited with poisoned meat. One of the dogs was tied up on a verandah and police are urging all residents to be very watchful of their animals.
Police are also asking dog owners to be on the lookout for symptoms of possible poisoning, which include fitting seizures, muscle spasms, vomiting and defecating. Residents are being encouraged to constrain their dogs at all times and to immediately remove foreign objects or suspect pieces of meat from their yard. Police investigations are continuing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Yass Police Station.
