There is a new face at Yass Public School.
Principal Jenny Garnett took over the reigns about a month ago and has enjoyed a busy but welcoming transition to the school.
Mrs Garnett transferred from Bungendore Public where she spent more than ten years as Vice Principal and relieving Principal.
Born and raised in Bathurst, Mrs Garnett began her teaching career at Lethbridge Park Public School in western Sydney and worked at Eastwood Public School for ten years before moving to Bungendore.
Mrs Garnett, who commutes from her home in North Canberra each day, was ready for a new challenge and applied for the position of Principal at Yass.
She has thoroughly enjoyed the past month and has high hopes for the remainder of the school year.
”I’ve felt very welcomed by the staff, students and parent community and I’m so pleased that I made the move.
“I want to continue the excellent academic results at Yass Public School and would like to make sure we continue these excellent results in 2008 and beyond.
“I’m also looking forward to working closely with the very caring and nurturing staff and the supportive parent body.”
Mrs Garnett said she really enjoys the sense of community that typifies small schools.
“There are both similarities and differences about working in country and city schools,” Mrs Garnett said.
“The wonderful thing about teaching is that you are working with so many different people and working with them to achieve their potential.
“I enjoy the smaller schools as you get to know all of the children and that’s a positive. A sense of community is very important and I really feel that here.”
