Willersdorf best in ’08

24/09/2008 5:00:00 AM
Ruckman Dave Willersdorf was named this year’s Yass Roos best and fairest player at an awards celebration on Saturday night.

Willersdorf stormed home to deny Captain Brendan Foran his second best and fairest medal and the ever-consistent Andy Morgan his first.

The award capped off a fine season for the on-baller, who was also named best-on-ground in the Roos’ successful grand final.

Captain Foran enjoyed another stellar season and an even better presentation night, taking out the players’ player and leading goal kicker awards.

Talented backman Doug Watchorn was awarded the most improved trophy, while Wayde ‘Fox Terrier’ Chalmers was a worthy recipient of the coach’s award.

The two Daves - Dave Willersdorf and Dave Brown – shared the inaugural captain’s choice award. Ben Scroope blitzed the field to win the 2008 player of the finals series.

Willersdorf topped the list with 35 votes, marginally ahead of Andy Morgan (32) and skipper Brendan Foran (30). The Roos’ captain claimed family bragging rights for the off-season, edging out younger brother Michael, who finished with 24 votes.

Ben Scroope saved his best form of the year for the finals series, topping the finals count with 21 votes, nine clear of nearest rival Ben McCallum.
