Brooker brothers wreak havoc

19/09/2008 5:00:00 AM
Long time sponsors Gregory and McCarthy kindly put their name to the Yass Open 4BBB Championships again for 2008, and it was familiar local golfing names that featured in the prize giving.

On a perfect Spring Saturday at the old Worth Street course the Brooker brothers came out on top by one shot from Sam Porter and Steve Scroope. Big hitting Peter Brooker and course curator Gary Brooker fired a three under par score of 65 to win the major prize and have their names inscribed on the wall for posterity. That super natural talent Steve Scroope dusts off the clubs once in a blue moon and is always competitive in the feature events during the year. He and the “who’s who” of Yass golf, Sam Porter, were almost up to the task with a two under 66 to be runners up.

(Yass Open 4BBB results)

Gross winners: P Brooker and G Brooker 65; runners-up: S Porter and S Scroope 66; nett winners: D Ward and G Butcher 75-56; runners-up: M Bell and A Weston 78-57; longest drive: N Matthews; nearest the pins: P Timmer 2nd, P Brooker 8th, B Brooker 11th, P Brooker 16th hole.

(Sunday stroke)

It must have been the early bird fifteen players on the Sunday as deteriorating conditions lead to a wild windy afternoon. Matt Townsend won the day with 87-21-66. Nearest the pin went to J Kenrigan on the 16th hole.

Balls to: M Townsend, B Partridge, P White, R Watchorn. CCR 67.

(Mid-week comp)

Fifty-eight players for the week resulted in both an A and B Grade. Winners got $20 vouchers and runners-up two balls each.

A Grade: P Timmer 22pts from F Henderson 21pts.

B Grade: C Phillips 22pts from B Brooker 21pts.

Balls to 20pts: K Mann x 2, F Johnson, J Paton, G Manson, G Doyle, F Kelly, W Kelly, B Brooker.

(Dads Army)

On a glorious Thursday morning it was the ‘baby’ of the troop Clive Phillips who broke his maiden with an excellent 21pts. Coming to golf later in life, the boy from Wallaroo near Hall got up by one from Graham Howlett and a further shot back to Merv Wright. Racy Ken Reidy and Lofty Mongan picked up the last two balls on offer with 18pts apiece.

Double congrats to Clive for two wins in his ‘breakout week’.
