Our team played in the zone 2 playoffs at Gundagai on Sunday, June 15. Representing Yass were: Danial Wilson, Peter Schofield, Breeze Howard and Andrew Ashlin; Darryl Gold, Steve Bush, Jamie Bush and Mick Penyu; Brett Penyu, John O’Donnell, Simon Cassidy and Glen Snowden.
In the semi-final they lined against Henty. Andrew’s side led from the word go to win 26-20. Mick’s side came from 7-1 down after five ends, winning nine ends in a row to take their game 21-13. Glen’s side also got off to a great start and took their game 23-15.
In the afternoon, Yass played a very strong Narrandera side in the final. Andrew’s outfit ran into a red-hot combination and were tied after six ends. Unfortunately, their opponents scored six shots on the next end and ran away with the match 23-12.
Mick’s side got away to a flying start and led 11-2 after nine ends. The opposition fought back somewhat to trail by five, 19-14, with two ends remaining. Their astonishing comeback continued with a further six shots scored in the remaining ends to snatch a come-from-behind 20-19 win.
Brett Penyu, John O’Donnell, Simon Cassidy and Glen Snowden were involved in an extremely tight game with scores locked on the fifth, seventh, tenth and thirteenth ends. After 16 ends Glen’s side looked to have the match sewn up, leading 14-8. Narrandera refused to fly the white flag scoring 14 points in just four ends, which included seven on the 20th. Before the locals could realise what had happened, Narrandera had claimed a 22-15 win.

On Wednesday June 25, twenty-two bowlers took to the greens. Chris Butt, Geoff Darmody and Terry O’Mara defeated Cliff Jones, Eric Smith and Col Payne. Terry’s side came from 13-4 down after eight ends to claw their way back into the game. By the 17th they had hit the front and never looked backed, taking the spoils 27-19.
Keith Kemp, Jason Dukes and David Cassidy played Don Bayley, Kevin Pollack and Merv Toms. David’s side had a comfortable win, claiming 16 of the 21 ends and the game 28-9.
Jack Wales, Clive Langfield and Ross Shaw played Tony Mather, Andrew Turner and Stuart Holmes. Ross’ side got away to a great start to lead by 18-7 after 14 ends and coasted home to take the game 24-15.
Anthony Kennedy and Max Davis played Theo Kuster and Peter Horton. Anthony and Max lead 11-2 after nine ends and were able to withstand a late charge by Theo and Peter to win 22-16.
On Sunday, 16 bowlers took part in the Sunday Jackpot. Helen McArthur, Merv Toms and Peter Horton played Leanne Goode, Linda (Spud) Scott and Graham Thurlow. I think Graham had too big a weekend in Griffith, as Peter’s side were always in charge, leading 15-1 after seven ends, pathing the way to a 23-12 win.
A Goode, Graham Henderson and Jason Dukes played Bruce Charles, Lois MacGregor and Greg Pryor. Jason’s side came from behind on two occasions to take the match 20-13.
Megan Bush and Robert Corcoran were red-hot on the day and scored a 21-9 win over Rhonda Corcoran and Max Davis. No one won the jackpot so up it goes this week.
