Long distance runner, mother of two and school teacher Angela Bateup has excelled once again, this time in the NRMA CareFlight Woodford to Glenbrook 25km classic in the Blue Mountains.
Bateup won the prestige open division of the women’s country run from Johanna Parsons in a time of 1 hour 37 mins 32 seconds on Sunday.
She returned to her preferred trail style running after a lengthy break, in preparation for an upcoming marathon in Sydney. “I used it as a bit of a warm up for the City’s Marathon at the end of July,” Bateup said.
City’s Marathon is a 42km race winding down the path of the M7. With substantial prize money up for grabs, Bateup hopes to help pay off a planned running trip to Europe in 2009.
The Mt Carmel School teacher has qualified to compete in the 2009 World Mountain Marathon Championships, an event where she finished third earlier this year.
Funds raised from the Classic will be applied by NRMA CareFlight to help the charity deliver its medical retrieval services in regional NSW and its helicopter trauma service in Sydney.
