27/08/2008 | Some groups in Yass go about their business quietly, until suddenly the fruits of their labours burst into our consciousness. One such group is Rostrum, the group which is organising the Meet the Candidates session at 7pm at Memorial Hall on Wednesday September 3.
Daffodils bring hope
22/08/2008 | I love daffodils, especially the big yellow trumpet ones like King Alfred. To me, the first bloom each year is reminder that the worst of winter is over and spring is just around the corner.
Fuel your child’s mind
20/08/2008 | This week is Children’s Book Week, the week we celebrate the role of literature in our children’s lives. Children’s Book Week is the longest running children's festival in Australia, celebrating its 63rd birthday this year.
Our vision for Yass
15/08/2008 | More than ever, Yass seems to be at the crossroads leading up to our local elections. As we prepare to choose nine representatives from the 23 nominations for our local Council, let’s think carefully about what we want for Yass Valley 10, 20 or 50 years into the future.
Olympic power
13/08/2008 | The Olympics seems to be the only show in town this week. Sports fan or not, you’d be hard pressed not to know that Stephanie Rice and Libby Trickett have won gold for Australia in the pool.
As I see it
8/08/2008 | So, after all the drama and hype, the greatest show on earth begins tonight in Beijing. It’s a safe bet human rights, Tibet, Muslim Uighur minorities peacefully seeking a separate state in the western province of Xinjiang and censorship of the press and Internet will not feature in the sea of celebratory red likely to erupt in the Bird’s Nest tonight.

Why I live where I live
6/08/2008 | Many people who make the move from city to country have country in their blood. Perhaps they were born in the country, grew up with wide open spaces, or spent happy holidays visiting uncles and aunties who remained in regional areas while another branch of the family tried their luck in the big smoke.
Sydney’s pain could be Yass’ gain
1/08/2008 | Sydney’s planned north-west metro would be a $12.4 billion dollar disaster, because the rail link involved would be too long for an efficient Euro-style operation and would service an area wedded to cars.

30/07/2008 | Did you read our bigger, brighter Friday Tribune last Friday? If you did, you will have noticed our Friday Trib has grown: this is in line with our commitment to bring you all the best in local news and views, twice a week.
Bigger, brighter Friday Trib!
25/07/2008 | Welcome to our bigger, brighter Friday Tribune! You will notice our Friday Trib has grown: this is in line with our commitment to bring you all the best in local news and views, twice a week. What’s different? Well, we now have 25 per cent more space on Friday to devote to Yass and the villages and rural areas surrounding Yass.
As I see it
23/07/2008 | The World Youth Day pilgrims have come, seen and worshipped, filling Sydney with the same energy, idealism and joy they brought to Yass Valley while they were here. Life can leave us tired, pragmatic and cynical, so it was heartening to see the streets full of the peace and goodwill that is at the heart of the Christian message.
18/07/2008 | I have never considered myself to be a “dog person.” I have never thought of myself as someone who would let a dog sleep in my bed.
As I see it
16/07/2008 | On Saturday morning some of you may have heard me chatting with Geoff Frost and Brian Millett on Yass fm, discussing issues in the hearts and minds of Yass people: the proposed big Yass Valley Way subdivision, the visit of the World Youth Day pilgrims to Yass and the wowser tag the Goulburn arts community has slapped on our High School over its late withdrawal from a student production.
Pilgrims experience country life
11/07/2008 | Yass will be teeming with young people over the next few days as pilgrims from Italy, Canada and South Africa soak up our country hospitality. The 50 Italians eventually arrived at 5am Thursday, on one of the coldest days we’ve had this winter. They were met by rugged-up bleary-eyed local billeting families and whisked off to a warm home, a hot shower and the promise of a good sleep.
Bigger, faster, stronger... We don’t need Savannah cats
9/07/2008 | Outrage is mounting over the proposal to import the Savannah cat, with the RSPCA and the World Wildlife Fund joining members of the scientific community in voicing their opposition.
