Climate change caught in financial fallout
3/10/2008 | It is hard to look to the future when the present is so uncertain. Professor Ross Garnaut may have a very important message for our long term future, but a short-term crisis will always overshadow a long term problem.
Low life
1/10/2008 | One person who fits the definition of a low life is the dog baiter. The person who takes his/her anger out on defenceless animals.
Rise
30/09/2008 | The book I am reading at the moment is Rise, by Ingrid Poulson (thanks Kate at Little Dog Books).
Rise
26/09/2008 | The book I am reading at the moment is Rise, by Ingrid Poulson (thanks Kate at Little Dog Books). It is an inspiring read, and I would recommend it to anyone who has suffered at some stage in their lives (that would be most of us, I’m sure).
Privatising gains, socialising losses
24/09/2008 | Privatise the gains and socialise the losses is not a great economic model to follow, but right now it appears it is the US government’s only option to stabilise the world financial system.
Counting your blessings
19/09/2008 | By the time I had listened to the news, Fran Kelly and AM on ABC radio this morning (Thursday morning), I was feeling inclined to pull the blankets over my head and spend the day hiding from the world.
As I see it
17/09/2008 | So the people of Yass Valley have had their say at the ballot box. With 23 candidates to choose from, we have every opportunity to vote in a good council; let’s hope we’ve taken the opportunity to do so.
12/09/2008 | Dear Editor, Many people have been asking me about my choice of candidates for the Yass Valley Council election on Saturday.
Choose carefully
12/09/2008 | The election is almost upon us and the candidates have wrapped up their pitch to voters. The main issues to have emerged during the campaign appear to be water, development, tourism, business, industry, youth and heritage.
Don’t waste ink on unsigned material
10/09/2008 | Unsigned material is not worth the ink with which it is written. Usually when I receive such material I drop it straight in the recycling bin I have conveniently placed beside my desk.
We came, we heard, we decided
5/09/2008 | Congratulations to Rostrum on hosting the successful Meet the Candidates evening on Wednesday night. A crowd of around 70 turned out, many with in depth questions to ask of the 20 candidates who attended.
Time versus perfection
3/09/2008 | In my line of work I make some tough decisions, many of which are reflected in the product you are currently holding in your hands.
27/08/2008 | Some groups in Yass go about their business quietly, until suddenly the fruits of their labours burst into our consciousness. One such group is Rostrum, the group which is organising the Meet the Candidates session at 7pm at Memorial Hall on Wednesday September 3.
Daffodils bring hope
22/08/2008 | I love daffodils, especially the big yellow trumpet ones like King Alfred. To me, the first bloom each year is reminder that the worst of winter is over and spring is just around the corner.
Fuel your child’s mind
20/08/2008 | This week is Children’s Book Week, the week we celebrate the role of literature in our children’s lives. Children’s Book Week is the longest running children's festival in Australia, celebrating its 63rd birthday this year.
Our vision for Yass
15/08/2008 | More than ever, Yass seems to be at the crossroads leading up to our local elections. As we prepare to choose nine representatives from the 23 nominations for our local Council, let’s think carefully about what we want for Yass Valley 10, 20 or 50 years into the future.
Olympic power
13/08/2008 | The Olympics seems to be the only show in town this week. Sports fan or not, you’d be hard pressed not to know that Stephanie Rice and Libby Trickett have won gold for Australia in the pool.
As I see it
8/08/2008 | So, after all the drama and hype, the greatest show on earth begins tonight in Beijing. It’s a safe bet human rights, Tibet, Muslim Uighur minorities peacefully seeking a separate state in the western province of Xinjiang and censorship of the press and Internet will not feature in the sea of celebratory red likely to erupt in the Bird’s Nest tonight.

Why I live where I live
6/08/2008 | Many people who make the move from city to country have country in their blood. Perhaps they were born in the country, grew up with wide open spaces, or spent happy holidays visiting uncles and aunties who remained in regional areas while another branch of the family tried their luck in the big smoke.

22/09/2008 | Once upon a time finding a mate was easy. It was a childhood sweetheart, someone from church or if you were ugly, the other ugly person.
